One of my all-time childhood heroes Carl Sagan, whose work as a scientist, author and broadcaster played a huge role in my decision to pursue science as a career, would have been 81 years old today. Growing up I avidly read everything he wrote and watched everything he made for TV. He was a true polymath and a gifted communicator. I remember him talking about us “watching from the shores of a cosmic ocean” and I really hope that’s exactly what he’s enjoying right now.
Happy Birthday Carl. We miss you.
