Here’s a really nice little video that I ran across on YouTube, which gives a six and a half minute introduction to the field of synthetic biology for anyone who’s ever heard the term “Synthetic Biology” and wondered just exactly what that is. The video does not contain anything that a modern biologist would probably not already know, but it does a good job of giving a broad introduction to a field that even biologists themselves seem to have a problem defining. In the life science arena, what is and is not considered “synthetic biology” is still very much open to debate. Ask ten biologists what it is and you’ll get fifteen answers. All that said however, this video provides a pretty good description of what most life scientists agree to be the core approach of synthetic biology.
